Decals have made their mark on the world of interior design, thanks to their ability to make a big statement. Add the fact that they are easily removable and fairly affordable, and their appeal is clear. Because many wall decals feature trendy designs, they can run the risk of looking outdated, especially if a style is on its way out. However, by keeping it simple and choosing classic forms, you can be sure to select a decal that will last for years rather than months. On the other hand, since wall decals can be applied and removed with ease, why not indulge your design fancy? It’s far less expensive than purchasing a large piece of wall art or investing in wallpaper that you may or may not continue to love. In other words, go for the style you are crazy about–you can always replace it if you tire of the design. Speaking of wall art, today we feature 12 modern wall art decals that are sure to take center stage in your interior. Among my personal favorites are carved panels. Many manufacturers produce them from wood material, with carved motifs in subtle relief, left in a natural finish or even painted and lacquered for a sleek and glossy look. If you want to do it the cheap way and pride on your self crafted art creation, choose a large panel of your favorite wood. Look up an interesting pattern on the internet – such as a feminine vine motif or a very geometric one, perhaps an intricate Mayan amulet – and have it lasered onto the wood. Your guests will surely appreciate such an artistic touch, hung over a comfortable couch in the living room or displayed under great ambient lighting by your stylish dining table. Patterned plasterAnother effortless wall design in which the texture speaks for itself can be achieved by modelling plaster. Cast a thicker layer of plaster onto the wall and pick a paint roll with a certain texture or even stencils. The effect can range from vintage and sophisticated to modern and geometric, depending on the stencils and models you use. Here’s a soft organic waves texture, conveying a relaxing atmosphere to a modern dining space. Wall tattoos look cool If you’re not quite the artistic type but would like to have a pictorial touch with no overbearing consequences, why not go with wall stickers? They are available in many sizes and a plethora of themes. Abstract floral themes are timeless and especially appropriate for a bathroom or boudoir. The pop culture approach is also very effective, with portrait outlines of female manga faces or celebrities. Urban themes such as phone booths, street lamps or even city skylines are in trend now. Or would you like some playful cat silhouettes for your living room? How about recreating the intricate skyline of New York or Istanbul over the couch or fireplace? One of the best things about wall stickers is, you can combine them with your furniture or framed pictures for a stylish and synergistic effect. Metal art for your walls For this one you’ll need a certain degree of blacksmithing skill and a passion for metal. Once you’ve gotten comfortable with the pleasures of handling hammer, pliers and perhaps a welding machine, the result will be artful, eccentric, and most of all, earned. One of the most versatile materials, metal ages well and can be very malleable. There is a widely spread copper trend in jewelry, and for a good reason. It is easy to process and has splendid colors. Let’s apply this same craft to our beloved home walls. Depending on skill and taste, the wall metal art installation can be geometric with just a hint of relief or a real 3D sculpture. An easier, corn-free way would be bringing a light installation by Cattellani and Smith into your home: the best of blacksmithing and lighting in one exquisite piece. A rare and fascinating approach to wall decor is hanging panels that sustain greenery. Nature lovers and not only will appreciate this vertical garden that thrives in sunny corners. You can buy it or make it yourself and develop an attachment to it, as well as pride and responsibility. After all, this fragile and beautiful living tapestry is not only pleasant to look at, but also brings well-being and freshness to your home.
Every Christmas home has its own design style and whether you enjoy pops of color or you prefer a more natural aesthetic to your home, holiday decorating doesn’t have to be the same every year. Neutral colors in holiday decorating have become a trend as homeowners are enjoying a more natural and organic life. Soft neutral colors, materials and finishes give Christmas decorating a new sense of renewal in your home. If you love bringing simplicity and natural Christmas decor into your home, here are ideas to inspire your home. Natural Christmas decorations: Whether you are decorating with candles and Christmas figurines for your holiday tablescape or you are trimming the tree with natural materials like straw, jute and burlap ribbons, natural decor is perfect. The inherent beauty of using Christmas decorations that reminds you of the outdoorsand is reminiscent of a rustic holiday are wonderful ways to bring natural colors into your interiors. When you think of log cabins with exposed walls and natural fiber textiles, use these in your holiday home to decorate with Christmas cheer. Stars, lights, woodland animals, bedding in bedrooms and throw pillows on your couches are perfect places to begin. If you prefer a “low-key” and understated home that celebrates Christmas for the natural ambiance of the season bring greenery in simple topiaries, wreaths, and garland into your holiday home. In your kitchen windows hang simple evergreen wreaths and carry them throughout your neutral color Christmas interiors. Instead of decorating every square inch of your holiday home, keep decorations minimal. A few choice placed Christmas elements on your mantle, front entry and even on your bedroom walls can set the holiday tone for the entire home. Natural colors and white lights look beautiful hung on bedroom walls and look even more gorgeous and form a soft glow at nighttime! Even though your holiday home is adorned with neutral color, you can still add a hint of glimmer and shine with accents of metallic luster. Metals such as gold, silver, and platinum ornaments, garland, and Christmas decorations in combination with your neutral color palette will add an unexpected punch to your natural home. Use metals sparingly as not to overpower the rest of your holiday home. Adorning your staircase banister and railing with garland and pops of glimmer will create a magical ambiance throughout your holiday home. If you love the natural and green aesthetics in your home interiors, these Christmas decorating tips will inspire your holiday decor. Whether you choose materials and textiles to inspire you, or you add a bit of glimmer with metals, you will be surprised how your home will come alive.
Being traditional by definition, rugs have come to play a smaller role in modern design since it’s all about the floor finishes. Especially, it is characteristic for the lovers of modern architecture to renounce any aspect of comfort in favor of a minimalistic visual effect. However, nothing says homey like a nice smooth rug in a friendly color. The possibilities are endless and each of them gives a plus of comfort and a welcoming accent to your home, be it classic or modern. Each of our rooms could well use a carpet for an added accent and a touch of coziness to make our feet happy. Here are a few ideas that definitely restore rugs to their former glory. Rug ideas for the living room The living room is, let’s face it, the place we wish to show off the most, where we want to spend memorable and pleasant hours with friends and family. We put a lot of thought into the right lighting, the furniture and the decorations, with a predominantly artistic eye. When adding a rug to a living room layout, 2 things are to be considered: geometry and color. The geometry rule? The size of the carpet should pretty much encompass all furniture pieces. The existing color scheme of the room is very important. If it’s vibrant, we add a rug with a simple design and a reserved color so we don’t collide. A milder hue of an already present color is a good way to go, as are white, black or beige, conveying elegance through simplicity. If you have a virtuously monochromatic room in white or cream hues and want to make it seem less plain, add a rug in one vibrant color that can resonate with other lively colored objects such as vases, pillows, etc. Multicolor or neon carpets can be a spectacular accent to black leather furniture, bringing about that crazy 80′s feel. Combine it with some 80′s disco tunes for a one of a kind living room ambiance. While neon colors catch the eye, the other way to go is a fluffy rug for the touch. It is a very popular option, especially in white, cream or black, making for a welcoming visual effect. It practically makes seating furniture obsolete, and you will be grateful to such a rug at a big friendly gathering. How would you like to welcome your guests on this sea of cuddly? Dining room rug ideasDepending on the geometry of your dining layout, you can pick rectangular, round or square rugs to furnish this space. Many dining rooms use rich wood furniture, which would be well complemented by rugs with more complex geometric forms. For the color choice, obtaining a color chart and holding it up to the wood in question solves the dilemmas. Next to dark wood, it could be gold and beige hues for timeless elegance. With brighter wood, it could be turquoise for an exotic touch. The visual effect of a turquoise table centerpiece to a rug of the same color is unmatched. Round rugs are naturally suited for a round dining table. If you have a good eye for antiques and are brave enough, picking a right Oriental or vintage rug brings an extravagant twist to a minimalistic and rectangular dining space. Kitchen rug ideas Whether or not it is considered the heart of your home and an intimate place for the family to gather, the kitchen is by default a traditional space. Textile rugs are not as practical in the kitchen and they can get messy easily, but how about a tatami mat to bring an ethnic and exotic touch to your cuisine? If you like retro style and the natural wood finishes and hanging pans are not absent from your kitchen, consider adding some colorful braided rugs to the breakfast area. Entryway rug ideas Nothing says welcome like a nice tiny rug and perhaps a cat in the lobby. And while it is an often easily overlooked space, the entryway or staircase can be given a warmer and nobler look by adding rugs. Not to mention how a stairway carpet diminishes the squeaky noises of threading on wooden stairs. Have a spot of welcoming vibrant color receive you on a cold evening when you slip out of you shoes. Bathroom rug ideas Rugs are a welcome twist to the cold and sleek surfaces of a bathroom. Since it’s a place to indulge yourself after a long day, spare no fantasies. How would you like a carpet with a Japanese theme by the minimalistic tub decorated with candles and orchids? Or even a (tasteful!) animal print rug. If you’re a rather well-behaved dreamer, consider very soft rugs in baby blue.
Bedroom rug ideas If you have a small home, not enough space in your room or you just don’t want to dedicate an entire space to just the tree, there are solutions to help. From potted container trees to abstract wall Christmas trees the options are limitless. If you are trying to find a creative way to house a space-saving tree this season, take a look these ideas that you will want to try this holiday season. Utilize the best part of the tree: If you want a live Christmas tree, consider using the best part of the tree – the top for your space-saving needs. Many tree nurseries and Christmas tree vendors will have smaller trees available for your tabletop and they can still be decorated and adorned with beautiful holiday ornaments and lights like their larger cousins. For many homes, a potted Christmas tree is a great option as it will live longer because its planted in soil and once the holidays are over, the decorations can come off and still make a great house plant. Abstract Christmas trees:While you may love the idea of evergreens in your home, you may not want the actual tree in your home. Many allergy sufferers prefer to have an artificial tree or even have abstract artChristmas trees hung on their walls. Your do it yourself creativity can let go with this idea. From greeting cards that you receive in the mail shaped into a Christmas tree shape affixed to the wall to using family portraits on a bare wall, you will love the options. Abstract trees don’t require any floor space to clutter up valuable walking areas and your bare wall will gain a “new life” for the holiday season. Creative ways to display gifts: You may be thinking, ‘where do I put all of the holiday gifts?’ If you plan on using a potted tree or a small container Christmas tree, stack gifts in baskets or other smaller containers, vases or creative bins decorated similar to the Christmas tree for a coordinated look. For abstract trees or tabletop trees, why not use gift bags in various sizes to hold the gifts? This will set the scene in an adjacent corner and still look festive in your home. Just because you are opting for a space-saving tree this season doesn’t mean you can’t beautifully display gifts! If you were thinking you had to go without a Christmas tree this season due to space-saving constraints, think again. Use these creative ideas in your home: from containers and potted trees to abstract wall varieties, your home has plenty of inspiration. Get creative this season; after all, next year you can pick a whole new idea and theme to bring Christmas beautifully into your winter home.
