With Easter less than a week away, we thought we’d spotlight some colorful decor that can illuminate this special holiday, then continue to add happiness and cheer to your spring! This season’s trends: bold hues and crisp whites, shiny metallics, and an abundance of soft shades with a modern twist. Setting an Easter table can seem overwhelming, especially when you’re hosting a large group. However, you don’t have to make each element of your decor Easter-specific. Easter Tableware We begin with tableware that will make serving your guests a true joy. These Bright Shapes Melamine Plates from West Elm are inspired by Mexican papel picado decorations. The best thing about these bamboo and melamine dishes: they can be used for summer entertaining as well as spring gatherings! Personalize each place setting with the Cardholder Bud Vase. Each mini bud vase includes a slot for place cards. These modern yet delicate pieces are also perfect for entertaining far beyond the Easter season. Fun fact: they are crafted from handmade beaker glass. Easter Centerpieces
We now turn our attention to centerpieces, which have the power to make a bold statement that unites various elements of your Easter and spring decor. We couldn’t end this post without featuring at least one rabbit, right?! These Porcelain Rabbits from Z Gallerie are glossy and white. While they are sold individually, don’t hesitate to purchase two or more for a duplicate effect. Side note: Rabbits aren’t Easter-specific. These modern pieces can stay out well past the holiday. Corner fireplaces have the power to make a powerful statement in the rooms they inhabit. Often a corner fireplace becomes the main focal point of the space. In fact, some people prefer to orient their furniture toward the fireplace, celebrating the hearth of the home. At other times, a corner fireplace can be a challenge to decorate. In fact, this article was inspired by the new home of my aunt. Not only does the living room of this home feature a corner fireplace, there is actually space in between the fireplace and the corner, creating an interesting and potentially problematic nook. Corner Fireplaces with Artwork One of the most popular ways to dress up a fireplace is to hang a piece of artwork over the mantel. As is often the case, the more modern the fireplace, the more modern the art. The fireplace below is an interesting example, as it contains traditional elements, such as a warm wooden mantel. Yet an abstract piece of art carries the eye upward, making a geometric statement that reinforces the contemporary features of the space. [from Dan Waibel Design Builder] The next fireplace features a floating mantel. A perfect square canvas hangs overhead, calling attention to the room’s sleek forms, especially the rectangular build of the fireplace itself. [fromLaura Burton Interiors] This next featured space from Lapis Design Partners adds a serene note to the bedroom. A vertically-oriented piece of art balances out the horizontally-oriented fireplace and reinforces the bluish tones of the room. It’s hard to say what the bigger scene-stealer is in this next space: the fireplace or the modern painting that hangs above it. The room below has a retro-meets-modern look that is perfectly complemented by the built-in fireplace with remote ignition. [from Studio Schicketanz Architects & Designers] This next modern space has a rustic element, thanks to natural wooden ceiling beams and other earthy features. The room’s textured fireplace truly shines under a painting that reinforces the beauty of nature, complete with a golden sunset glow that mirrors the glow of the fire! [from Jade Design Group] Ready for a room that’s on the traditional side, yet still a bit modern? The fireplace tile below frames the burning wood in a sleek way, yet molding creates a softness that fits with the rest of the space. Also of note: the oil painting on the mantel, perfectly flanked by a trio of contemporary ducks. [from Farinelli Construction] only thing better than a modern corner fireplace is an accent wall to give it oodles of prominence! The horizontal wooden planks on the wall below ensure that both artwork and fireplace take center stage in this phenomenally designed space. [from Elizabeth Metcalfe Interiors & Design] Corner Fireplaces Featuring Mirrored Accents Some hang artwork above the fireplace. Others use the space to display a flat screen TV. Then there are those who make a reflective statement with a mirror. Or two, as shown in the room below from KannCept Design, Inc.: In a room with Greek key motifs on metal console tables and modern squares on the rug, it makes sense that an interesting geometric shape such as a quatrefoil would appear in mirrored form above the fireplace. [from ASD Interiors] Round mirror is the perfect accent in the next space, which features an assortment of circles, ovals, squares and rectangles. Adding a round component to the fireplace wall is a great balance to the angles below. [from Visbeen Associates, Inc.] Placing candles in front of a mantel mirror can compound the soft flicker of flames, adding a glow that rivals the burning fire.[from Ted Knude Photography for Cedar Glen Homes] Peninsula Corner Fireplaces
Peninsula fireplaces have three sides, creating an appearance of protruding from the wall rather than fitting into the corner. These statement fireplaces are architecturally interesting and often appear at the ends of accent walls constructed of material such as stone. [from Warmington & North] Art Deco pieces have a look that is truly distinct. And Art Deco style was unlike anything the world had seen before it first appeared in France in the 1920s. Art Deco Seating We begin with some Art Deco seating that will bring the ’20s and ’30s to your living room. Like this Contemporary Art Deco-Influenced Semi-Circle Lounge by Timeless Interiors, distinct in its streamlined design, curved form and eggplant hue: Also from Timeless Interiors, this Art Deco Style Lounge and Lounge Chair features chrome and timber detailing. The angular form of this Modern Feature Chair with Art Deco Influences has an undeniably Deco look while also channeling Mid-Century style, thanks to its four tapered legs. [from Timeless Interiors] Like the look of these Art Deco Influenced Contemporary Tub Chairs? Maybe it’s because their curved shape channels Deco style at its finest. We also love the way these pieces can take on a Hollywood Regency look, especially when paired with luxe geometric carpet. [from Timeless Interiors] Art Deco Desks What better way to add some elegance to your office than by incorporating an Art Deco desk? The Strand Mirrored Desk from Restoration Hardware is designed in the style of French Art Deco furnishings. Waterfall edges, dark metal trim and a mirrored surface create a signature Deco look for this elegant yet practical piece. This Racketeer Acrylic Dining Table can also double as a desk. A hexagonal shape and dark/light contrast give this piece true vintage vibe, as well as an ’80s Deco look! Deco tables are the perfect way to go vintage in your interior. Are you looking to make a small Deco statement? Select a side table or a chic console. For a larger Art Deco effect, go with a substantial piece, such as the Strand Mirrored Cocktail Table from Restoration Hardware. Waterfall edges, an aged patina, and a clear contrast between the mirrored and the dark create a look that is both Deco and antique. Marble and chrome are two signature Art Deco materials. Which is why we’re loving this Smart Round Marble Top Coffee Table from CB2, with its chrome frame and Carrara-style marble surface. Not to mention, a streamlined look gives this piece a retro-meets-modern vibe: Another striking offering from CB2 is the Ernest Chrome Bar Cart, designed by Mash Studios. A geometric chrome form and mirror/glass discs add reflective shine to this unmistakably Deco-style piece: a dash of Old Hollywood style with Deco geometry, check out the Faceted Mirrored Side Table from West Elm. An engineered wooden form and mirrored paneling create an angular glamour that is hard to resist… Art Deco Dressers and Cabinets When antiquing for Art Deco finds, you are likely to come across a variety of Deco-era cabinets and dressers in golden wooden tones. Even new pieces that celebrate this vintage style channel the past. Like this Art Deco Style Bedroom Furniture from Timeless Interiors, which includes a chest of drawers and bedside cabinets featuring walnut veneers and marble tops. And you’ve gotta love the fan-shaped mirror, chair and headboard: Deco Lighting
We couldn’t celebrate Art Deco flair without including some key pieces of Deco-style lighting. Thanks to Restoration Hardware, a range of ’20s-influenced selections can now illuminate your home. The 1920s Odeon Glass Fringe 3-Ring Chandelier features three concentric rings of glistening prisms, as well as an iron frame. Talk about a powerful combination of straight lines and rounded forms! There’s nothing like a dazzling pattern on the wall to set the stage for a gorgeous interior. And today’s featured patterns represent a wide range of styles, from traditional and swirly to modern and geometric. Not to mention, there isn’t a room in the house that can’t benefit from a crisp wallpaper. Wallpapered Living Rooms We begin with the living room, where people gather to chat, rest, read…or admire the amazing walls that surround them! It’s easy to admire this shiny wallpaper, which is subtle with monochromatic style yet bold in its repetitive pattern. In fact, this striking combination of subtle and bold is perfect for a space that combines modern and traditional elements, such as mirrored coffee tables and formal upholstered chairs. This lacy wallpaper creates a similar effect, although the beige-gold pattern really pops against its white background. Note how the ornate design is nicely complemented by flourishes such as a crystal chandelier. If you really want to go bold, opt for strong outlines, as shown in the Sutherland Large Swirl wallpaper from Cole & Son. In fact, an unexpected wallpaper can serve as an artistic backdrop for the rooms furnishings, such as the earthy chair and floor lamp below. Some wallpaper selections create a mural effect in the room they inhabit, much like the tree blossom paper in the next image creates an epic feel in this elegant space If the paper is particularly eye-catching, one wall may very well get the job done. The geometric wallpaper below is an ideal counterpart to other geometric flourishes in the space, such as floor-to-ceiling shelving. A true retro effect is created. While the bohemian study below technically isn’t a living room, it certainly qualifies as a living space. In this interior, beloved multi-stem patterned wallpaper by Orla Kiely is a true highlight, enveloping the space in vivid color and form. Wallpapered Dining Rooms What could be more appetizing than a dining room that truly decks the walls?! The wallpapered spaces that follow range from elegant to modern. We begin with a paisley design in black and white, the perfect backdrop to a modern dining table and chairs. A red-orange bowl is the one pop of the color the room truly needs. We continue with the ornate by featuring a room surrounded by wallpaper that celebrates vegetation. The small pattern of the paper is an ideal size for the addition of a plush rug featuring a larger design. Branches of flowers on the table mimic the print on the walls. There’s nothing like the elegance of a hand-painted design that celebrates chinoiserie, as shown in the room below. Bamboo plants and birds are striking points of interest. One possible wallpaper solution: create a series of panels by framing large sections of paper. This strategy turns the wallpaper into a true work of art and prevents the design from overtaking the room. Below we see a room designed by id 810 Design Group featuring trellis wallpaper from Osborne & Little. The grey wallpaper below celebrates a range of shades and serves as a striking yet neutral backdrop for other brights such as pink, yellow and cobalt blue. Wallpapered Bedrooms
